David Short discusses his new role as Executive Partner, Advisory Services at Novigi.
What is your role at Novigi?
I am an Executive Partner at Novigi, looking after the Advisory portfolio of the firm.
You have a wealth of experience from working in many great companies. What lessons have you learnt about being successful in today’s business environment?
With the pace of change, particularly in data and technology, a keen lesson for me has been the value of a combination of ‘battle scars’ from previous experiences, and being right on the edge of developing technology.
What motivates you to contribute to business/client success?
When I was younger, I played professional team sport. The life-long lesson I took from that, is achieving a goal is much more effective, and enjoyable, when you bring together a combination of attributes towards a common goal.
Who has inspired you in your career thus far?
I would have to say my Dad. He was the first ever technology executive for one of the UK’s biggest wealth managers, and literally had to take the roof off the building to put in the first computer! He then went on to set up a successful consultancy business, so I have drawn a lot of inspiration and lessons from him.
What excites you most about working with Novigi?
The people and the purpose. I had the chance to work with the team on the client side and could see the capability. What I particularly liked though was the pragmatic and innovative approach.
What about Novigi attracted you to get on board as an Executive Partner?
The chance to get involved in building something great. Businesses of all sizes need support at the moment with the need for significant digital and technological change. I see Novigi as a great solution for so many businesses that need agile, innovative and right-sized solutions and wanted to be a part of that.
What attributes are you most looking forward to bringing to the Novigi team?
I am someone who has deliberately sought out different changes in my career and as a result has worked in different roles, industries and business types. Having held senior corporate roles as well as worked in both large and small professional services organisations, I look forward to bringing my experiences to helping clients and Novigi succeed.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I love being outside. Camping and golf are my passions and luckily my family love camping and the kids have started golf, so we’re looking good!
What is an interesting fact (or two) about yourself?
I was lucky enough to play professional and representative rugby union when I was younger, and getting to lead my Scottish team (Under 18’s) out at Murrayfield was a huge honour.
